What the Fiduciary Standard Means for You
The fiduciary standard is the highest legal and ethical standard in financial services. Here's what it means in practice when you work with Paramount Associates.
Legal Obligation to You
A fiduciary is legally required to place your interests above their own at all times. This isn't a marketing claim—it's a legally enforceable standard that creates real accountability.
Conflict-Free Recommendations
Fiduciary advisors must disclose and manage conflicts of interest. At Paramount Associates, our fee-only model eliminates most conflicts at the source.
Full Disclosure
Fiduciaries must provide full disclosure of fees, compensation, and any potential conflicts. Our ADV Part 2 filing provides complete transparency about how we operate.
Informed Consent
Fiduciaries must ensure clients understand the advice being given and its implications. We educate clients so they can make confident, informed financial decisions.
Warning Signs Your Advisor May Not Be a Fiduciary
Not all financial professionals are fiduciaries, and not all disclose this clearly. Here are warning signs that your current or prospective advisor may not be acting in your best interest.
How to Verify Fiduciary Status
Ask the Direct Question
Ask: 'Are you a fiduciary for all services you provide me, at all times?' A true fiduciary will answer 'yes' without qualification.
Review Their Form ADV
All RIAs file Form ADV with the SEC, which discloses how they are compensated and any conflicts of interest. Review it at adviserinfo.sec.gov.
Check Their Registration
SEC-registered RIAs managing $100M+ and state-registered RIAs managing less are fiduciaries. Broker-dealer representatives are not.
Confirm Fee-Only Compensation
Fee-only advisors receive no commissions, ensuring their fiduciary obligation is not undermined by compensation conflicts.
